High potential and gifted education

Some students demonstrate advanced ability in areas such as creativity, critical thinking, leadership or academic learning. At our school, we recognise and respond to these strengths by providing appropriately challenging and engaging learning experiences. Our approach supports high-potential learners to continue to grow and thrive during their time with us.

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs during their hospital stay. Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

We do this through:

In our classroom

  • Differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity and higher-order thinking.
  • Explicit teaching of critical thinking and problem-solving strategies.
  • Opportunities for abstraction, inquiry, and curriculum depth.
  • Tasks that promote choice, authenticity, and critical and creative thinking including cross-curricular projects.
  • Supportive learning environments that enable exploration
  • Safe learning environments that encourage confidence, risk-taking, and perseverance.

Across our school

  • STEM and coding
  • Critical thinking activities
  • Visual arts activities
  • Creative writing activities
