Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
Community Visits
Each year, we welcome a range of special visitors who bring energy, encouragement and smiles to our students. Guests often include Captain Starlight, St George Illawarra Dragons players, Illawarra Hawks basketball players, and many others from the local community who generously share their time to brighten the days of children on the ward.
Party Week on the Children’s Ward
Each year, our school collaborates with the Children’s Ward at Wollongong Hospital to create Party Week—a joyful highlight for students and families. The week is filled with dress-up days, special visitors, and plenty of fun, bringing colour and laughter to the ward and creating memorable moments for children during their stay.
Supporting the i98FM Illawarra Convoy
Each year, our school, in conjunction with the Children’s Ward at Wollongong Hospital, supports the i98FM Illawarra Convoy. As the largest truck and motorbike convoy in the Southern Hemisphere, it raises vital funds for local families, charities, and hospitals. We are proud to contribute to this important community event.
100 Years of NSW Hospital Schools
In 2023, the NSW Department of Education celebrated 100 years of Hospital Schools. Across the state, ten hospital schools provide highly individualised and differentiated learning for students from Kindergarten to Year 12, ensuring all students can continue their education during their hospital admission.
“I really valued the one-on-one learning with my teacher. I never had to wait for help, and everything was explained at a pace that made sense to me. The hospital school helped me stay on track with my learning—and I even earned a B on a science assignment while I was there.”
Year 9 student
"My child loves attending hospital school due to calm, inviting environment. It assists with his hospital stay as he really enjoys going to school and has been upset about missing school. It gives us parents a sense of normality and the teachers are just wonderful, caring amazing people!"
Parent of Year 2 student
"The hospital school is an excellent and invaluable resource and forms part of the overall care of children and young people admitted to our ward."
